Porgai Artisans Association

Porgai Artisans Association is an initiative in the Sittilingi Valley of Tamil Nadu. The organisation attempts to empower the rural women of the valley by reviving the dying traditional Lambadi art. The local Lambadi tribals have rich, distinct cultural milieu of dialect, dresses, craft and tradition. Currently 60 artisans are part of the initiative. They call their work “Porgai” which in their dialect translates to pride- pride which they feel in their work, in their tradition.
